Summary

Our Environmental Health Service plays a vital role in protecting residents' well-being, and ensuring homes and communities meet high standards.

As part of our dedicated team, you will lead investigations and regulatory compliance activities within housing and environmental protection. You will provide expert advice to residents and businesses, guiding them towards compliance, and where necessary, preparing cases for formal enforcement and legal proceedings.

Key responsibilities will include:
• Responding to housing disrepair complaints, conducting inspections of HMOs and mobile home sites.
• Delivering home repair grants and energy efficiency initiatives to improve living conditions.
• Investigating statutory nuisance such as noise, smoke, dust and light issues.
• Assessing environmental pollution and air quality concerns contributing to policies for greener communities.
• Assessing and responding to planning and licensing applications and attending relevant hearings and meetings.

The Experience you will bring

You will need either a diploma, degree or MSc in Environmental Health or equivalent qualification and experience working in private sector housing and/or environmental protection.

In-depth knowledge of key legislation, regulations, best practices, systems, policies, and procedures. You will have a proven ability to carry out investigations, gather evidence, take enforcement action, serve statutory notices and prepare cases for prosecution or tribunal.

You will have strong teamworking and communication skills, collaborating with colleagues, other departments and external agencies to deliver a customer-focused service. Supervisory, training and mentoring experience to support the development of junior staff would be desirable.
Whether you're an experienced Environmental Health Officer/Practitioner, looking to expand into new areas of Environmental Health, or a newly qualified/nearly qualified Officer looking to grow your career, we want to hear from you.

You will need a full driving licence and the ability to work flexibly within the service's core hours and on occasions outside of normal office hours.
