Summary

Learning Support Assistant - Special Education

Location: High Peak, SK23

Contract: Long-term

Start Date: September 2025

Pay: £90 - £105 per day

Long Term Futures are looking for a compassionate learning support assistant to join a nurturing special academy for 2-19‑year‑olds, with around 75+ currently on roll. The setting supports young people with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), complex communication needs, severe learning disabilities, autism, physical and sensory impairments, and associated challenging behaviours.

The school benefits from a high staff‑to‑pupil ratio and on‑site specialist support including nursing, speech & language therapy, occupational therapy, and music therapy. They also provide access to features like a hydro‑therapy pool, sensory suite, food‑tech room and therapeutic gardens - all designed to deliver an enriched, bespoke curriculum.

Role Overview

You'll provide vital one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils across the day - in classrooms, at lunch, around school, and during therapy sessions. Working under the direction of class teachers, SLT or the Head, you'll help ensure each learner is safe, engaged, and able to access tailored learning experiences.

Responsibilities
- Support individual pupils with complex needs, assisting with communication, movement, feeding, behaviour and personal care.
- Supervise pupils at mealtimes and playtimes, promoting positive interactions and wellbeing.
- Assist teachers and specialists in delivering personalised activities and therapy programmes.
- Monitor, record and report pupil progress, liaising with the SENCO, therapists and other staff.
- Contribute to the preparation and maintenance of therapeutic and sensory environments.

What We're Looking For
- Experience working with children and young people with severe learning needs.
- Patience, empathy, flexibility and resilience.
- Commitment to promoting pupil safety, welfare and communication.
- Enthusiasm for working in a specialist, multi‑disciplinary environment.
