Summary
Teaching Assistant - Specialist SEND School (Birmingham)
We are looking for a caring and proactive Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in the South Birmingham area. This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with a range of needs, including SEND, SEMH, and other additional learning requirements.
You'll work closely with teachers and support staff to help create a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment-one where every pupil is encouraged to reach their full potential.
This role is well-suited to individuals with experience supporting pupils with special educational needs, either in a mainstream school, SEN setting, or alternative provision. Whether you're an experienced TA or looking to take the next step in your education career, you'll benefit from a structured support system and ongoing professional development.
We're looking for someone who:
· Has relevant experience supporting children or young people with SEND (school-based or similar)
· Demonstrates empathy, resilience, and a child-centred approach
· Is confident working with pupils with autism, SEND or SEMH needs
· Can remain calm under pressure and support behaviour in a positive, restorative way
· Is reliable, adaptable, and works well within a team

Key responsibilities:
· Provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEND and/or SEMH
· Assist the class teacher with planning and adapting learning activities
· Support the development of pupils' communication, social, and emotional skills
· Promote a calm and supportive classroom environment
· Help implement strategies in line with pupils' EHCPs
· Support positive behaviour management
