Orthopaedic Clinical Fellowship in Hip, Knee and Sarcoma Surgery

Grade MT05

Applications with outstanding surgical experience with FRCS (TR&Orth) or equivalent are invited to apply for the fellowship post(s) for 12 months starting 1st September 2025. The posts will be based at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford.

The post is suitable for surgeons who will have completed thier specialist registsrar training by the time of appoinmment abd are seeking experience in a ypoung adult Hip/Hip athrosopy and sarcoma surgery in the first instance withe the view to rotate to another areas of the hip and knee teams for the second 6 months.

Candidates on appointment must hold a full registration with the GMC, This post is a full time, fixed term contract.

Applicants must hold a valid ALS certificate.

3.1. Clinical Commitment:

The purpose of the post is to enable the successful candidate to gain further experience in Hip and Knee Surgery.

The post holder will gain clinical and operative skills under the direct supervision of the consultants within the Hip and Knee Team. The post holder will conduct clinics, operating lists, ward rounds and assist with clinical management with the consultants and on behalf of the consultants’ during their absence.

To participate within the orthopaedic registrar on call rota:

1:21 Resident on-call 0800-2030

1:21 Non-resident on-call 2000-0800

1:21 Resident on-call 2000-0830



Fellowships will broadly encompass one of three areas during each six month period: Revision arthroplasty, soft tissue knee surgery, orthopaedic oncology or hip arthroscopy. Applicants should indicate on their application form (in the supplementary information section) two areas they would like to cover during their fellowship. Fellowships commence on the first Monday of March and September, the applicant’s preferred start month and year should be included in the supplementary information section.

The post is full-time, fixed term contract for 6 months extendable to 12 months, please indication on your application placement period.



The post requires the occupant to be resident during on-call periods.



The post-holder must hold full registration with the General Medical Council.



Salary scale: Nodal Point 5 – local appointment grade code – MT05

Out of hours commitment is applicable.

The post holder must be up to date with all mandatory and statutory training.



This Post is subject to the Trusts terms and conditions that mirror the 2018 junior doctors contract refresh.
