Engineering Trainer/Assessor - Leading Further Education College in Birmingham

Location: West Midlands

Contract Type: Full-time | Permanent




Morgan Hunt is pleased to be working in partnership with a leading Further Education college in Birmingham to recruit a skilled and motivated Engineering Trainer/Assessor to join their apprenticeship and training team.




This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering professional with a background in training and assessment to play a key role in developing the next generation of engineers. The successful candidate will support apprentices across Levels 2 to 6, delivering high-quality assessment in the workplace and, where needed, practical instruction in college-based workshop settings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a caseload of engineering apprentices, ensuring timely achievement of qualifications in line with internal and external expectations.
  • Conduct workplace assessments and progress reviews across engineering disciplines.
  • Deliver practical sessions where required, including mechanical systems, process plant equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Support apprentices with portfolio development and preparation for End-Point Assessment (EPA).
  • Maintain accurate and timely records through e-portfolio systems.
  • Collaborate with employers and colleagues to ensure learner success and progression.
  • Attend standardisation meetings, training, and development events as required.
  • Uphold college policies on safeguarding, health and safety, and equality and diversity.
Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Recognised assessor qualification (A1, D32/33, or TAQA)
  • Relevant occupational qualification in Engineering (Level 3 or above)
  • Literacy and Numeracy qualifications at Level 2 or willingness to achieve
  • Experience delivering and assessing apprenticeships within an engineering setting
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage own workload independently

Desirable:

  • Verifier qualification (V1, D34, or IAQ)
  • Experience using digital and e-portfolio systems
  • Current knowledge of Further Education and apprenticeship reforms
Additional Information:
  • The role involves regular travel to employer sites and may require occasional evening or unsocial hours to meet learner and employer needs.
  • This position requires a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of learners.
