University of Sheffield
We are excited to offer an opportunity to join our growing Blast and Impact Group, contributing to world-leading research in explosive detonations, underwater blast effects, and structural response under extreme dynamic loads. We are looking for a motivated researcher, with expertise in both experimental and computational methodologies, who is looking to expand their career in a collaborative and purposeful environment. Your time will be split between our Buxton based experimental laboratory and our University of Sheffield city-centre campus, collaborating with leading researchers, industrial partners, and international collaborators. You’ll also have the chance to craft future blast research and contribute to developments in safety, defence, and blast engineering.
You will lead the design and implementation of experimental studies on explosive characterisation and underwater blast phenomena, and apply and develop computational models to support this research. You will analyse data and deliver findings to industrial partners, funding bodies, and academic collaborators. Additionally, you will support the group’s broader activities, including student supervision, writing funding proposals, building an inclusive research culture, and setting the agenda for the future of explosions research. You will have, or be near completion of, a PhD in explosions and have demonstrable experience in blast testing.
What We Offer
The University of Sheffield is a remarkable place to work. Our people are at the heart of everything we do. Their diverse backgrounds, abilities and beliefs make Sheffield a world-class university.
We offer a fantastic range of benefits including a highly competitive annual leave entitlement (with the ability to purchase more), a generous pensions scheme, flexible working opportunities, a commitment to your development and wellbeing, a wide range of retail discounts, and much more.
We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University. We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
