Are you a Paediatric Nurse with experience working with complex care service users in Sheffield?

The client is a delightful young child who has significant physical, sensory and cognitive disabilities as well as various associated medical conditions. This includes, gastrostomy care and feeds, complex medication administration, epilepsy management, ventilator use, catheterisation, deep suction alongside managing activities of daily living.

He lives with his parents and older brother in their family home that has adaptations specific but evolving to his specialist needs.

Your role will be to initially assist in developing a suitably skilled team of support workers to meet his needs 24/7. The transition to a full team will need to be a gradual process and during that time you will need to gain the confidence and trust of his parents, so they feel confident that the team is able to take on this role, and safely support the Supported Person when parents are not present. The parents not only live with their son but are very committed to him and will always be involved on a day-to-day basis so you will need to develop an effective working relationship with them.

40 hours per week - Monday to Sunday flexibility inc Bank holidays - hours to be agreed with family.

There are 2 well behaved dogs in the home - so a dog lover would be preferable.

Senior Band 6 or 7 nurse experience

You will need to be confident in deep suction, in dwelling catheter care, buccal trained and seizure management, peg care and must be a qualified nurses specialising paediatrics.

Person Specification:

  • You will need to demonstrate a commitment to working with a child who has complex needs living within a family home and understand the nuances which allow such a role to be successful.
  • You will have extensive experience in complex children's care, as well as working across specialities and the ability to conduct yourself confidently when dealing with professional colleagues.
  • You will be a Nurse Registered to work with Children and be enthusiastic about maintaining your registration and progressing your own Professional Development

Knowledge/Experience required:

  • A sound knowledge of child development and common complex disabilities and a range of treatment approaches
  • Good working knowledge of therapy processes and theoretical models
  • Child Protection Legislation and the Mental Capacity Act
  • Understanding of evidence-based practice and the implications for clinical practice.
  • Significant experience as a qualified children's nurse working with children with complex needs within a relevant setting
  • Experience working as part of a multi-agency team
  • Knowledge and confidence in Safeguarding vulnerable individuals and being confident in raising and dealing effectively with any concerns should they arise and be a role model for others in the team to do the same.

Job Description

Your role will involve providing regular clinical supervision to the members of the team, this includes maintaining effective and smooth relationships within the team.

Completing and implementing staff rota, ensure that all shifts are covered to meet the needs of the Supported Person.

Supervising and monitoring effective working practises and adherence to training guidelines.

Liaising with the wider Multi-Disciplinary Therapy Team, coordinating and attending MDT meetings

Liaising as required with Statutory and private professionals involved in the Supported Person's care.

Supporting in the event of any hospital admissions.
