Summary
The Opportunity:
You will use a variety of analytical methods and coding techniques, including social computational approaches, to analyse how emotional and identity-based narratives and visuals have been used to frame and reframe Europe and the European Union as a political entity, and to communicate its role to the public, over time.
This post is fixed-term from 1 November 2025 to 26 September 2026.
This post is part-time (21 hours per week). As this post is lab-based it requires on-campus working.
The salary for this post is at Grade UE07: £40,497 to £48,149 per annum, pro-rata as part-time.
Your skills and attributes for success:
A PhD (or equivalent training and work experience) in a relevant social science with training or skills relevant to the project on the neurophysiology of European identity.
Demonstrable research experience, particularly critical engagement in conceptual and theoretical work on argumentation, identity and the role of a sense of belonging in political groups and regimes.
Excellent analytical and communication skills, supported by good IT skills, and ability to adapt to digital research methods as required.
Excellent interpersonal skills including a collaborative, collegiate approach, and the ability to establish and maintain personal working relationships with colleagues.
