Summary
MAIN PURPOSE:
• To be responsible for the strategic and operational provision, delivery and development of services within Public Protection.
• To work collegiately with the Head of Safer Communities (and the leadership team) in maintaining effective and customer-focussed service delivery in accordance with Divisional and Corporate policies and priorities.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. To give direct support to the Assistant Director (Public Protection) in respect of developing, planning, monitoring, reviewing and delivering the strategic and operational aims, objectives and activities of the services in scope.
2. To deputise for the Assistant Director (Public Protection) where necessary and take responsibility for all aspects of managing the Division on those occasions.
3. To have overall responsibility for the day to day operational management of the services within scope, and for that purpose:-
(a) Prepare and implement programmes of service provision designed to ensure effective and efficient delivery within the requirements of agreed policy and best value.
(b) Ensure the services that are provided represent good value for money and have regard to alternative means of service provision where appropriate.
(c) Ensure that the expenditure of the services within scope is contained within agreed budgets and that the requirements of the Council’s Financial Regulations are satisfied.
(d) Keep the Assistant Director (Public Protection) advised of any sensitive issues or matters that might require changes in policy and procedure.
(e) Ensure that all statutory functions within the services in scope are properly executed and carried out within the delegated powers of the Director of Environment and Public Protection.
(f) Provide the Assistant Director (Public Protection) with monitoring reports regarding the activities and performance of the services within scope as required.
(g) Maintain a level of suitably qualified and trained staff within the Section in order to ensure the provision of an efficient and effective service.
4. Maintain a high level of knowledge and expertise in the areas of special responsibilities carried out by the Section.
5. Work collegiately with the team managers that directly report to you, ensuring that their operational activities are managed and monitored, and that performance is kept on track.
6. Work collegiately with peers, maintaining a one Council ethos.
