Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Band 6 dietitian to join our rotational team where you will have the opportunity to develop your clinical skills, but also be involved in service development and student training.
There are ten rotations each lasting one year: two at St Mary’s Hospital: Critical care, Gastro/respiratory; four of which are based at Charing Cross Hospital: Stroke, Gastroenterology, ICU/Neurosciences, Head and Neck/Oncology and four at Hammersmith Hospital: Renal, Gastroenterology/medical, Haemato-oncology and ICU/Cardiothoracic/Cardiology. Rotations occur in April each year.
You will have the opportunity to develop your clinical skills, with formal training in parenteral nutrition, renal or critical care where appropriate. All rotations require skills to manage complex enteral tube nutritional support and multidisciplinary working. There are also some line management opportunities.
We are a large, high profile, friendly department involved in undergraduate and post graduate medical training. We also facilitate placement 1, 2’s and 3’s for dietetic students and are involved in teaching other health professionals such as nursing and therapy colleagues. The department is forward thinking and our service delivery is very much influenced by the audits and research projects we carry out which are supported by excellent IT facilities and Quality Improvement initiatives. The department also supports robust CPD for all staff members.
• To provide a quality Nutrition & Dietetic service to both in and outpatients within Specialist Area in accordance with established departmental guidelines.
• To work autonomously as a specialist within department guidelines with responsibility for clinical excellence within the specialist area and manages own workload.
• To provide specialist Nutrition & Dietetic input into education, training and development programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate medical, nursing and dietetic students in addition to other training requirements.
• To participate, in conjunction with the clinical lead, in clinical training, review, mentoring and assessment of undergraduate and postgraduate student Dietitians’ and to develop literature and materials to facilitate this.
• To contribute to the development and implementation of evidence based nutritional guidelines and service developments in the specialist area.
• To contribute to the development, production and maintenance of evidence based departmental literature in the specific areas of nutrition (e.g. patient diet sheets).
• To assist in the production of ad hoc reports and project work.
