JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY The jobholder will be actively involved in providing direct and indirect care for patients in support of Clinical Photographers and Ophthalmic Imaging Staff (Healthcare scientists). The jobholder will be expected to work without supervision. The jobholder will contribute to the maintenance of an environment for effective care. The jobholder will work within Medical Illustration which is delivered across Leeds at the acute hospital sites and community locations, including non-LTHT sites. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Maintain high standards of care Undertake a range of ophthalmic imaging procedures including V/As, pupillary dilation, IOPs, field tests and retinal plus corneal imaging, including OCT, tomography, widefield imaging and specular microscopy. Provide routine information to patients, communicating to patients the importance of attending appointments. E.g where a patient has a strong perception there is nothing wrong with their eyes because the vision test shows a good result, but the imaging may show a problem. Receive information from patients and update EPR systems accordingly Maintain a safe working environment, reporting incidents, accidents, complaints A frequent requirement of handling and positioning of patients in a wheelchair, including toileting patients. Understand the need to maintain and respect patient confidentiality Participate in in-service training Participate in mandatory training annually Participate in annual performance appraisal Undertake duties on different sites as required by service demands Support team members with appropriate clinical activities Assist in the welcome and reception of patients into the clinical area Undertake visual acuity tests, intra-occular pressures and instil eye drops. Update information systems e.g. JMS PAS MIM PPM+ Undertake the administration work supporting the care pathways within the service Following training and assessment, undertake agreed Medical Illustration and Ophthalmic Imaging activities, will undertake routine clinical photography / ophthalmic imaging which requires a high degree of accuracy in positioning images. Working overtime, sometimes at short notice, to provide cover Develop good working relationship Participate in appropriate and relevant communications networks Ensure the maintenance of good relationships, communications and teamwork with all disciplines within the ward / department Managerial Will be expected to supervise and train other clinical support staff. Hand hygiene must be performed before and after contact with patients and their environment. COMMUNICATION & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS Clinical Staff Allied Health Professions Facilities staff Medical Staff SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS i) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequent standing, sitting, walking, kneels and crouches to attend to patient needs. Moving & Handling of patients and equipment on a daily basis: - Patients 10-120kg (with lifting aids) - Equipment medical equipment (weight 1-20kg) ii) MENTAL EFFORT: Frequent mental effort/concentration required in relation to responding to and meeting patients needs (e.g. for 7.5 hour shift) Direction by registered practitioner. Works without direct supervision May be expected to lead/direct the work of band 2 staff Verbal and written communication skills required iii) EMOTIONAL EFFORT: Exposure to distressing or emotional circumstances is rare iv) WORKING CONDITIONS: Temperature should be controlled, but may experience hot or cold work environment Smells dealing with body fluids Violence & Aggression may experience violence and aggression from patients and/or relatives/carers Infection Control exposure to patients with infections
