Summary
The Maternity and Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital Care Group is based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. We have 50 Obstetric beds, a new Triage/BSOT’s area, and 13 delivery rooms, and a 4 bedded Midwifery Led Birthing Unit. We have a combined bed base 42 Intensive, High dependency, Transitional care and Special Care Cots within their Neonatal Intensive Care Service.
The community maternity service spans 1,200 square miles covering both city and rural geography. We have seven community midwifery teams providing antenatal and postnatal care from small, dedicated midwifery and support teams.
We are currently fully staffed within our midwifery establishment and are working towards the full establishment of maternity care support workers.
The Maternity Unit at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital provides care for approximately 5,000 deliveries and 5800 pregnancy bookings annually, caring for women and families with complex health as well as an outstanding midwifery led birthing unit for low-risk care. The service provides a homebirth service with a dedicated Homebirth Service Team.
The service was rated GOOD by CQC in 2024, with the inspection team identifying no Should Do’s and only three Must Do’s.

• The partnership with the Chief of Service for Obstetrics and the Operational Manager is key. The team will report direct to the triumvirate.
• To work with the Divisional Nurse & Midwifery Director, COD, DOD, Deputy DOD, and HoN in providing strong, clear visionary leadership to across Women and Children’s Division through team working to ensure effective midwifery/nursing/AHP management and delivery of the service.
• To be responsible for compliance, continuous improvement, and monitoring of quality standards.
• Lead the development of the strategy for maternity services and ensure the staff are fully engaged and supported in operational, governance and performance matters.
• Contribute to the NNUH’s strategic aims and ensure the achievement of strategic objectives/deliverables.
• Lead responsibility for developing and contributing to the midwifery/ nursing/AHP elements of the Business Plan, including workforce, skills, financial and capacity/service improvement plans as part of the annual planning cycle.
• Financial responsibility for implementing services in line with the NNUH’s financial strategy and SOPs. This includes leading transformation through the cost improvement plan for maternity services.
• Responsible for contributing to and developing hospital wide NNUH policies and implementing within the requisite services.
• To be professionally accountable for the quality and safety of the midwifery and non-medical health professional services, and for maintaining professional standards and adherence to the NMC Code of Conduct and HPCC Code of Conduct.
• Ensure that the Women and Children’s Division meets the annual accountability agreements, corporate objectives, and delivery programmes for maternity services.
