Summary

Job Summary: Accountable to EBME Technician Supervisor To provide an efficient Medical Equipment Library service in supplying clean medical equipment to clinical areas as required. On collection, the equipment to be visually inspected externally cleaned and the database updated. To contribute to the successful operation of the Medical devices Library Key Result Areas & Performance: Ensure all equipment taken out of or returning to the library is correctly recorded on the departments computerised recording system for the effective tracking of library devices. Use the MEMS to monitor the Planned Maintenance schedules for Library equipment, and any out of their service date to be entered onto In Rack. Work with ward managers to obtain signatures on department paperwork including New equipment acceptance forms and Condemnation forms updating MEMS and filing paperwork as required. Faulty equipment being returned to the EBME workshop is to be thoroughly cleaned and then entered as In Rack on the Medical Equipment Management System MEMS To check medical devices such as Syringe pumps, Cardiac monitors etc. that are use within the Equipment Library, to ensure that the equipment is working correctly prior to reissue. Work force Assess the priority of all telephone / bleep requests for medical equipment and respond with the correct level of urgency. Arrange for Medical Equipment that cannot be safely decontaminated within the department are sent to outside suppliers who have the suitable equipment to decontaminate the equipment as and when required. Liaise with Tissue Viability Specialists when there are any queries regarding the use of Pressure Therapy mattresses. Liaise with clinical staff with the selection of medical devices. Advise nursing staff on how to set up Pressure Therapy mattresses when requested to do so. Work closely with technical and clinical staff to provide high standards of service delivery, making continual improvements in the management of medical devices across the Trust as directed by the EBME Technician Supervisor. Financial Operates within standard operating procedures in own work area and make recommendations for change to support the work of the team. Contribute to the improvement of services, carrying out satisfaction surveys and audits as required. Act in ways that support equality and value diversity. Be proactive in relation to own personal development. Assist in maintaining own and others health, safety and security. Partnerships Communications and Relationships Liaises with: Medical, Nursing, Duty Manager, Medical Device Manufacturers and Clinical Engineering Technicians. General Ensure all equipment being collected / delivered is complete with all accessories and an in-date (for electrical safety test) mains lead. Ensure all returning equipment is cleaned and decontaminated by ward staff, with the decontamination form completed, in accordance with Trust polices. Clean all equipment in the equipment library in accordance with local policy. Equipment found during delivery / collection rounds (or retrieved after being reported) and requires repair is correctly cleaned, decontaminated and labelled by the ward staff. Equipment to be given a further clean and returned to the Clinical Engineering workshop. Ensure all equipment with backup batteries is kept on mains power while in the library to recharge batteries. Maximise the library stock levels prior to weekends and bank holidays. Have good clear communication skills to relay fault conditions, technical information or urgent messages from clinical staff to technical staff. Monitor equipment library stocks of stationary, cleaning products and consumables bringing shortfalls to the Clinical Engineering Lead technicians attention. Maintain the libraries stock of User Manuals to comply with Healthcare Standards. Work at all times in accordance with the Trusts policies on Health and Safety and Medical Device Management. Should become conversant with Managing Medical Devices April 2021. Carry out training sessions for clinical staff on safe use and setting up for Pressure Therapy mattresses. To have regular meetings with the Clinical Engineering Technician Supervisor and to propose changes that will improve the quality of the Equipment Library services and procedures. Must be able to move medical equipment around the site, from small syringe drivers up to large ultrasound machines. Carry out any other duties deemed necessary to maintain an efficient equipment library service.
