Summary
As a member of the multidisciplinary team the post holder will contribute to the
delivery of patients’ individual care under the direction and supervision of a
registered nurse.
The Senior Nursing Assistant demonstrates a level of skill and understanding which
enables them to undertake specific tasks delegated by the nurse in charge and in
accordance with relevant procedures, guidelines and policies. S/he will undertake
both routine and specially identified tasks for which they have been trained and
assessed as competent.
Assist with the induction, supervision and training and development of Band 2
Nursing Assistants under the supervision of a registered nurse.
There is the opportunity to develop within the role and undertake further training
and development.
To act as a role model for student nurses and colleagues.
• · Maintain a professional behaviour at all times and promote a positive image of Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust at all times, in line with World Class Care values.
• · To assist the staff in the delivery of direct patient care.
• · To undertake skilled nursing activities for which training and competency assessment has been undertaken.
• · To assist the nursing staff in maintaining patients well-being and dignity in a safe environment and in maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy.
• · To understand and adhere to all relevant trust policies and procedures.
• · To prioritise care as appropriate.
• · To demonstrate good communication skills when dealing with patients, relatives and members of the multidisciplinary team utilising sensitivity, empathy and ability to manage conflict.
• · To understand and support safeguarding principles for patients and escalate any concerns to the registered nurse.
• · At all times to respect patients’ privacy and dignity.
• · To contribute to the safe and therapeutic environment for all patients, relatives and visitors.
• · To perform, understand and report patient risk assessments e.g. Nutritional assessment scores, Falls Assessment, Moving and Handling, Pressure Scoring Tool Assessment .
• · To demonstrate initiative and the ability to recognise/identify changes in a patient’s condition/treatment and report promptly to the registered nurse
