Summary

Harborough District Council are looking to recruit a Climate Impact Officer to support the coordination of all relevant agencies to drive forward local flood and climate risk management plans, schemes and projects. Our work is varied, and your aim will be to reduce the flood and climate risks across the district.

You will develop strong, positive, working relationships with internal and external partners (such as Environmental Health, Assets, Waster Management, Planning, Leicestershire County Council, the Environment Agency, Local Resilience Forum, parish Councils and Elected Members) in relation to flooding and climate impact across the district. You will represent the Council as required at local and regional meetings and forums, partnerships and working groups as directed.

As a Climate Impact Officer, you will work across the Council to improve services for our residents. You will act as the District Council’s lead on community flood and climate emergency response and preparedness. You will be the key link between responsible authorities to identify ways to reduce flood and climate risks to residents of Harborough District and to drive the delivery of flood and climate risk management schemes across the authority.

You will be innovative, resilient and be able to identify and deliver tangible benefits regarding flood and climate risks. You will be self-driven, a good listener, have excellent communication skills and the ability to inspire and motivate a wide range of stakeholders. You will demonstrate emotional intelligence and awareness of the impact of flooding on local communities.

You will have practical experience of working with residents, public groups, businesses, and schools to help them plan and prepare to reduce the impacts of flooding and climate impacts. The work will help ensure communities have the confidence to take positive action during an emergency and will build the relationships and mutual trust between the community and Category 1 & 2 responders.

Knowledge of MS365 products and the ability to quickly understand bespoke specialist systems and background in local government, or partnership agency would be beneficial but not essential for this role. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent communications and relationship management skills.

People who are employed through an employment agency to carry out work at HDC may apply for internal vacancies.
