Summary

We are seeking a highly organised and detail orientated Communications Officer to help deliver effective communication plans that drive awareness of domestic abuse and push for the national and local changes needed to tackle it.

Working as part of the Communications team, you will work with journalists to deliver impactful media coverage that helps to shape the conversation about domestic abuse, lead on crafting compelling copy for a range of channels including social media, a monthly newsletter and the website, alongside building strong working relationships with stakeholders across government and the domestic abuse sector.

The role is fast paced and varied and would suit someone with experience of working with national and local media outlets, managing asset design and development including social graphics and reports and is confident with turning complex information into compelling coverage and content.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop and deliver PR and communication plans that position the DAC office as a thought leader on tackling domestic abuse.
  • Build strong working relationships with key stakeholders both internally and externally. This includes across national and local government, the voluntary sector and with senior journalists.
  • Write, edit and produce engaging, persuasive and accurate copy for key audiences and channels. This includes but isn’t limited to press releases, statements, newsletters, web pages and social media.
  • Act as a first point of contact for journalists, ensuring requests are handled quickly and effectively.
  • Manage and develop the DAC office’s digital channels, generating engaging content that reaches key audiences.
  • Act as the point of contact for external suppliers such as photographers, designers and website support.
  • Support the Head of Communications to embed and deliver a new communications strategy for the DAC office.
  • Working closely with the Lived Experience Engagement Lead, champion the voices of survivors within DAC communications, ensuring their lived experiences guide the national conversation about domestic abuse and the changes needed to better protect victims and survivors.
  • Assist with the day-to-day operations and administrative functions of the communications team, including monitoring and evaluating media coverage, taking part in an out of hours media rota and coordinating a monthly sector call and newsletter.
  • Deputise for the Head of Communications when necessary.

Working pattern:

This is a Fixed Term Appointment to cover maternity leave.

Due to the nature of this role the candidate will be required to work full time hours and be in the office two days a week.
