This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a collaborative practice that places sustainability, performance and intelligent design at the centre of its work.
About the Company
This independent consultancy was founded over a decade ago by experienced engineers from major international firms. Now with a team of around 30 engineers, designers and consultants, they have built a reputation for technical excellence, environmental expertise and creative design thinking.
The practice delivers MEP and environmental design services across all RIBA stages, with projects ranging from residential and commercial buildings to hotels, cultural spaces and heritage sites. They work regularly with leading architectural practices across the UK and internationally, and are committed to pushing the boundaries of sustainable building design.
Why Join?
- A relaxed, inclusive and collaborative studio environment
- Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
- Opportunities to work on high-profile, architect-led projects
- Ongoing learning, development and chartership support
- Exposure to the latest tools in BIM, simulation and digital design
- Meaningful work that contributes to a low-carbon future
The Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality mechanical designs, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and supporting the development of sustainable and efficient building systems. You will also take the lead on smaller projects under the supervision of senior engineers.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Producing design information including calculations, schematics, technical schedules and drawings
- Carrying out dynamic thermal modelling using IES, and SAP/SBEM assessments
- Sizing equipment and systems and ensuring compliance with the brief and relevant regulations
- Coordinating with other disciplines and attending site visits and client meetings
- Supporting junior team members and contributing to a culture of shared learning
- Working towards chartership with CIBSE or IMechE
What You Will Need
- A minimum of three years' experience in building services mechanical design
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline
- Proficiency with 2D AutoCAD and experience using Revit for 3D modelling
- Competence in thermal modelling using IES software
- A strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and low-energy design principles
- Familiarity with UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guidelines and planning policy

Desirable
- Experience acting as the main point of contact for design coordination
- Awareness of current trends in sustainable building and environmental design
