Are you a highly motivated individual looking to step into management and progress within your aquaculture career? We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Hatchery Manager to join the Company’s Recirculation Unit at Inchmore. The role is challenging, but ultimately very rewarding and can lead to a variety of fulfilling career progression opportunities.
If you are ambitious and motivated and want to work with a likeminded team, then this is the role for you. The successful candidate will be required to work 40 hours per week or an average of 40 hours where your shift pattern rotates over more than one week. The successful candidate will also be expected to be part of a weekly alarm rota and will be required to stay on site providing 24 hours call out cover. We can offer support with commuting from the Inverness or Fort William area.
About the job
We need our Assistant Managers to strive for continuous improvement and deliver on all aspects of hatchery work to keep the team on track and performing well. The job includes, but is not limited to:
- To provide all aspects of effective day to day assistant management and support for the recirculation wrasse units.
- Assist and deputise, as required, the role of the Site Manager.
- Assist the Site Manager in managing stock performance and ensuring that asset utilization is maximized.
- Assist the Site Manager in the development of annual production plans and financial budgets.
- Ensure that the site reports accurate production data in accordance with established protocols and timetables, conducting regular ‘ad-hoc’ audits during site visits
- Ensure the site complies with HSE and MCA requirements.
- Manage husbandry activities and exceed stock quality and quantity targets.
- Ensure that all aspects of fish health are properly monitored and action taken where necessary
- Ensure that the highest standards of hygiene, quality and health and safety are applied with regard to staff, stock and equipment
- To ensure regular and accurate reporting of production information in accordance with company procedures
Ideal candidate
The ideal candidate should currently be a Hatchery Technician or have an interest in the aquaculture industry and be willing to learn. They will be willing to expand their understanding and work hard on the job.
- A degree in Biological sciences, or equivalent, is advantageous
- Previous experience with marine finfish would be a distinct advantage but candidates with extensive experience with salmon or other species will be considered.
- Previous experience in fish health, egg & alevin incubation, feeding and fish grading
- Flexible approach to working to meet the demands of the job
- High degree of computer literacy is essential.
- Good communication & planning skills.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Ability to understand the aims of the site and to support the rest of the team to achieve these
- Respect for the need for safe working practices
- Drivers licence is essential. No driving licence? Don’t worry, we can help with the cost of lessons
