Hours: 36 per week, 39 weeks sessional

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Early Years Officer to work within the nursery at Longstone Primary School. We are seeking an experienced, committed and enthusiastic person to join our team to make a contribution to the continuing development and delivery of high-quality education at the nursery.

The Early Years Officer (EYO) will act as key worker to individual children in the provision of the following services:

  • Delivery of the pre-school and birth to three curriculum;
  • Promotion of welfare and wellbeing of children, including child protection
  • Supporting parents in a range of ways such as running parenting groups
  • Liaison with other staff and organisations to ensure that individual children are kept safe and input to the development of appropriate care packages;
  • Services to support children and their families delivered in partnership with schools, health staff and community education.

We invite applications from suitably qualified candidates who:

  • Have a passion for supporting the care and learning of young children
  • Have a sound knowledge of early years pedagogy and child development and will provide support to staff to develop play pedagogy
  • Have experience of delivering high quality play experiences to children within an early learning and childcare setting (indoors and outdoors)
  • Enjoy working as part of a team and are eager to make a valued contribution to a team

You will have knowledge and experience of current early learning and childcare provision and procedures. With experience of working with children, you will have an HNC/SVQ Level 3 in Childcare or equivalent

An interest in using ICT to enhance learning and teaching is desirable.

style="margin-left: !important;">You will be required to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) in the category of Practitioner and adhere to the codes of practice set out by SSSC.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
