Summary

Job Purpose


To work as part of the Children’s Community Nursing Team, providing children’s bladder and bowel nursing care primarily within a child’s home, school and nursery, and clinics ensuring the delivery of evidenced based care to children and their families or carers. The Brent Children’s Continence Service will run clinics 9-5pm, Mon – Saturday.





Thepostholderwillberesponsiblefor:



· To participate in the assessment, planning and provision of skilled nursing care in negotiation with the child and family

· Identifying, understanding and feeling confident to promote good bladder and bowel health for children

· To provide skilled, effective, evidenced based nursing care for children with bladder and bowel care needs

· To work in a collaborative manner with other agencies to ensure a seamless delivery of care to families.

· To provide information and support to facilitate the child’s and family’s own choices with regards to nursing care around the management of bladder and bowel issues

· To lead the enhanced Tier 1 bladder and Bowel toileting advisory and drop in service

· To run T2 bladder and bowel clinics, complete assessments, ordering of products and make recommendations

· To train local staff to offer better assessment, evidenced based advice to GP practice/ school nurse and health visiting services.

· Provide knowledge of continence milestones, general advice on toilet training and bladder and bowel health, such as information on fluid intake, dietary advice and the importance of regular toileting.

· To operate the drop in service by appointment only to ensure that we manage the number of service users attending to keep everyone as safe as possible.

· The continence nurse to be able to answer questions and discuss any concerns including day and nighttime wetting; constipation and soiling and to give advice and sign posting.
