Summary
We currently require a number of enthusiastic doctors (ST1,ST2 level SHOs) to join our departments to start in the rotations October 2025 intake.
This is a unique opportunity to join the largest trust in the country and participate in an excellent 2 year trust SHO rotation in trauma and orthopaedics. The Trust will fund successful candidates (for the SHO rotation) to complete a distance learning MSc in Trauma Sciences degree at QMUL. Sucessfulcandidates will be required to apply as soon as possible for places on the MSc Course. If successful at interview for the SHO rotataion the Trust will pay the university degree fees in exchange for 24 months service. *
The surgical rotation posts include positions in Trauma and Orthopaeids across all thre sites in 6 monthly blobks. Final slots will be confirmed prior to starting at the trust and are allocated on a 6 monthly basis. This offers the opportunity to work across all the Barts Health sites providing excellent variety and opportunities for learning. Typically this will also include a 6 month post in another specialty (e.g. Plastcs – although this is not garaunteed).
The rotation posts are not recognised for post-graduate training but will provide the same educational opportunities, and successful candidates are expected to fully participate in the well-established postgraduate training program to continue their personal and professional development. The rotation helps to fulfil the requirement for a succsssful candidate to work towards CREHST. Previous candidates have been successful at securing national training numbers (ST3) at national selection interviews (100% in 2024/5).
The experience gained in the rotation would be extremely useful for candidates wishing to pursue a career in Trauma & Orthopaedics. The hub and majority of the rotational placements will be at The Royal London Trauma Centre site and Trauma and Orthopaedics.
An example rotation is 12 months of T&O at RLH (Major Trauma) and Newham (Elective), 6 months of T&O at Whipps Cross (MTU and Elective), and 6 months of Plastics/or other specialty.
