About the job.

We are recruiting for a Financial Accounting Manager to join the team, based in Birmingham! You will be responsible for the management of the Financial Accounting Team.

This role takes a lead in the delivery of the statutory financial statements and the annual audit process in consultation with the Department for Transport and National Audit Office. You will be responsible producing a robust set of financial statements, developing and maintaining appropriate financial accounting policies and ensuring that our processes are fit for purpose.

Key Responsibilities.

  • Lead the production of our statutory financial accounts, including the Dartford & Thurrock River Crossing financial statements.
  • Ensure our financial statements are compliant with accounting standards and delivered to time.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors during both interim and final audits, ensuring a smooth audit process.
  • Support the development of our financial accounting policies, processes and disclosures to support regulatory compliance.
  • Support the accounting of our complex asset valuations, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting and alignment with relevant accounting standards and act as an accounting subject matter expert, providing advice to a variety of stakeholders across the business.
  • Lead and motivate a high-performing team, effectively utilising their skills to deliver our goals.

About you.

  • Fully qualified accountant with current membership in a recognized professional body such as ICAEW, CIMA, ACCA, or CIPFA.
  • Expert knowledge of IFRS and awareness of FreM.
  • Extensive financial accounting experience within a large-scale organisation, demonstrating strong technical and strategic capabilities.
  • Relevant experience in accounting for complex assets, such as major infrastructure projects.
  • Good understanding of government financial reporting requirements, supporting regulatory compliance and transparency.

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
