The unit delivers 6000 women per year and has an equally busy gynaecology unit seeing 12 000 emergencies and 10 000 new referrals each year. It has an excellent reputation for education with protected time for teaching and consultant led educational supervision. This is a trust funded postand is ideal for a doctor wishing to pursue a career in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the future. Candidates with at least 6 months experience in a UK SHO post (NOT locum or clinical attachment) are eligible to apply.
You will work closely with a highly competent multi-disciplinary team to delivery high quality outcomes for our patients and local communities
The post will be a full-time equivalent to ST-1/2 level in obstetrics and gynaecology at GSTT working within the Directorate of Women’s Services. Obstetric duties will include the hospital birth centre (HBC), antenatal clinics, ward rounds on the antenatal and postnatal wards and elective theatre list on HBC. Gynaecology duties will include gynaecology ward round, gynaecology outpatient clinics, one-stop outpatient minor procedure clinics, inpatient and outpatient operating sessions and emergency gynaecology sessions.
Our Maternity Unit delivers around 6600 women per year, with a mixture of general and specialist pathways being delivered antenatally and postnatally. We provide a comprehensive Gynaecology service, containing a dedicated Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynaecology Unit, a standalone Gynaecology Outpatient environment, and elective operating at St Thomas' and Queen Mary's Hospital Sidcup.
We have an exceptional reputation for education with protected time for teaching and consultant led educational supervision, and excellent opportunities to develop skills in all areas of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (clinical, research, educational and service improvement leadership). There is an international reputation for research and development in maternal medicine, assisted conception and prematurity.
Organisational Values:
Our values help us to define and develop our culture, what we do and how
we do it. It is important that you understand and reflect these values
throughout your employment with the Trust.
The post holder will:
- Caring
- Ambitious

Our values and behaviours framework describes what it means for every one of us in the Trust to put our values into action. The framework can be found on our Trust careers pages and GTIntranet.
As an organisation we are committed to developing our services in ways that best suit the needs of our patients. This means that some staff groups will increasingly be asked to work a more flexible shift pattern so that we can offer services in the evenings or at weekends.
You will deliver an on-call rota alongside more senior clinicians for both Obstetrics and Gynaecology. You will take part in both maternity and gynaecology elective operating and outpatient appointments, as well as supporting emergency rotas in early pregnancy and the maternity assessment unit. Our rota is fully EWTD compliant.
Candidates should ensure paperwork is compliant and in line with the person specification as advertised.
Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC.
