Summary

Port Manager – London

Overall Responsibilities

Lead the delivery of safe, cost effective, competitive and timely towage services within the port.

You will be responsible for the general management of the London port operation, ensuring local business objectives are aligned to overall company strategy.

Responsible for planning, directing and controlling all operational activities within the port to achieve business goals, profit and operational effectiveness targets.

SPECIFIC AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Operations

• To manage the port entity as a profit centre and manage any arising operational issues
• Provide leadership and direction to operations and onshore staff
• To seek continual improvements in service to our customers
• Act as the company representative with the customers, port authority, statutory bodies and other external stakeholders
• Assist the Commercial Teams in business development/sales activities
• Work with Marine standards to promote safe operations, quality assurance and security of the business
• To ensure assets are properly maintained and proactively manage the deployment of the fleet in the port to ensure all stakeholder expectations are met
• Ensure the protection of people and assets

Financial responsibilities

• Overall P&L management and accountability for the port operations.
• To monitor and control the port operating budget to ensure that all resources are deployed effectively and that the port is running at optimal operational efficiency.
• Responsible for reporting on the port’s performance to key stakeholders, both internally and externally as applicable
• Analyse and report financial data to support the development of budgets and forecasts
• Ensure that the operations are cost-effective and identify opportunities to reduce costs without compromising on service delivery

Stakeholder Management

• Build and nurture relationships with external stakeholders within the Port (customers, agents, port authority,) to derive maximum value from the business relationship and to ensure towage operations are delivered to our customers in an effective and efficient manner
• Build and nurture relationships with trade union representatives within Svitzer
• Keep Managing Director (UK) informed of service performance, customer feedback and emerging issues or opportunities
• Prepare and provide accurate operational summaries for both external and internal stakeholders
• Be a point of contact for customers ensuring the effective day to day delivery of services and prompt resolution of operational issues

People

• Build and nurture relationships with crews and union representatives to implement our One Svitzer Culture
• Supported by People & Culture team, manage the relationship with the local union branch, holding regular consultation meetings and resolving any disputes that may arise
• Drive up employee engagement through effective day to day management of our people
• Promote inclusivity, encourage collaboration, and drive high levels of employee engagement
• Have a good understanding of HR policies and processes and to handle disciplinary and grievance cases.

Required/Preferred Experience
• Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
• Previous management experience within an operational maritime environment (or similar industries)
• P&L ownership and successful past deliveries in similar environment
• Experience of working with and managing budgets
• Experience in driving employee engagement and culture
• Experience of working in a unionised environment – preferred
