Job Summary We are seeking a strategic and visionary Business Manager to provide senior leadership and direction for the practice. The post-holder will work closely with the GP Partners to drive long-term development and innovation, ensuring the sustainability and quality of services in an evolving healthcare landscape. This role focuses exclusively on strategic, financial, governance, HR, and stakeholder engagement responsibilities, empowering clinical and operational leads to manage day-to-day activities. The Business Manager will contribute to shaping the future of the practice while maintaining high standards of performance, compliance, and staff engagement. Key Responsibilities Strategic Planning & Development Lead the formulation, implementation, and review of the practices strategic business plan. Monitor and evaluate service performance against national/local benchmarks and identify improvement opportunities. Identify and pursue new income streams, funding opportunities, and collaborative ventures. Develop and implement plans that align service delivery with patient demand and financial viability. Oversee clinical and organisational audit activity to support continuous quality improvement. Governance & Compliance Ensure compliance with Care Quality Commission (CQC) requirements and NHS contractual obligations. Maintain a culture of clinical governance, safety, and risk management. Oversee significant event reviews, complaints trends, and policy updates to ensure learning and improvement. Safeguard confidentiality and data protection through robust information governance frameworks. Financial Leadership Manage practice financial planning including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting. Monitor income streams (PMS, DES, LES, private work) and ensure accurate claims and payment tracking. Provide regular financial insights to partners to support informed decision-making. Work with external accountants to prepare annual accounts and ensure tax and pension compliance. People Strategy and Organisational Culture Lead workforce planning, HR policy development, and succession planning. Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing culture that promotes wellbeing, collaboration, and professional development. Support the annual appraisal framework and ensure staff objectives align with practice goals. Advise partners on complex HR matters including restructuring, performance, and strategic recruitment. External Relationships and Representation Represent the practice in local healthcare forums, NHS Properties, LGT, PCN meetings, and with commissioners to ensure the practice voice is heard. Build and maintain partnerships with other providers, community organisations, and stakeholders. Digital and Data Strategy Provide strategic oversight of IT systems and digital tools that support business efficiency and patient care. Use data and analytics to drive decision-making and inform service planning. Ensure adherence to data security and information governance standards.
