We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Therapy Technical Instructor to join the Critical Care Therapy team at University College of London Hospital.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated Therapy Technical Instructor to work along side our physiotherapy team and within the MDT. You will deliver excellent patient care across the Critical Care wards at University College Hospital and Grafton Way Building.
You will be responsible for providing both clinical and administrative support to the critical care physiotherapists. You will work without direct supervision to undertake treatment plans delegated by a qualified therapist to progress the rehabilitation of critically unwell patients. The administrative tasks will include record keeping, data collection and equipment maintenance.
This is a physically demanding job that requires good communication and interpersonal skills, working with patients with life limiting conditions. Successful applicants will be expected to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the principles of Physiotherapy and the role of a therapy assistant.
The successful candidate will demonstrate compassion, initiative and excellent organisational ability and ideally having worked previously as a therapy assistant within a healthcare setting.
Key role is to perform specific tasks for an individual as part of the treatment and rehabilitation programme without direct supervision, but under the direction of a qualified staff member. Duties may include:
• Implementation and progression of treatment plans delegated by qualified staff.
• Perform mobility and stair assessments and issue advice leaflets to patients.
• Teaching, issuing and progressing mobility with the use of walking aids.
• Providing non-complex interventions for complex patients.
• Discharging patients under supervision of qualified staff.
• Teaching and progressing the independent use of wheelchairs.
• Restocking and cleaning of re-usable equipment as required per trust policies.
• Demonstrating and teaching personal and domestic activities of daily living.
• Reinforces the qualified therapist's advice and patient education.
• Completes graded, indoor/outdoor functional mobility programmes with patients. This involves continuous and independent assessment of environment and potential safety risks.
