You'll be joining a supportive team committed to improving housing outcomes across Birmingham.

Your new role
Birmingham City Council is launching a targeted Bed and Breakfast Pilot Project aimed at reducing the number of households in B&B accommodation. While this role does not involve direct work with those currently in B&Bs, it plays a vital part in the wider housing pathway by supporting households in self-contained units-creating essential movement that enables others to transition out of B&Bs.We are seeking motivated and proactive Housing Support Officers to join this impactful initiative. You will work closely with citizens in temporary accommodation to ensure they are tenancy-ready and actively progressing through the housing system.
In this role, you will be responsible for confirming the residency status of citizens living in self-contained units and ensuring they have an active housing application on Birmingham Choice. You will also promote alternative housing options, including opportunities within the Private Rented Sector, to help broaden access to suitable accommodation. Additionally, you will provide general support to the Temporary Accommodation Support Officer (TASO) team and contribute to the overall objectives of the Bed and Breakfast Pilot Project.
This role will be looking to start on the 1st July 2025 and will be for 9 -10 months.

What you'll need to succeed
The ideal candidate will have experience in housing, support work, or a related field, with strong interpersonal and organisational skills that enable them to effectively engage with clients and manage their workload. A good understanding of housing pathways and local authority systems is desirable, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team is essential. Due to the nature of the role, access to personal transport is required. This role also requires an Enhanced DBS check to be completed ahead of starting the role, which Hays will process for you.

What you'll get in return
This is a full-time temporary position that is working in office and offers an hourly rate of £14.12. Being registered with Hays you will be given many rewarding opportunities, with a personalised service to you and the dedication to finding you your next role and career.
