Applications are invited for a Maintenance Manager, in the Estates Department.

The successful candidate will:

• Manage the implementation of a preventative, planned and reactive maintenance workload across the campus, using in-house or contract resources.
• Ensure all plant and systems are operating efficiently with optimum levels of availability and performance thus minimising disruption to student learning and teaching and School business.
• Prepare and implement a planned annual maintenance programme for all buildings and plant installations, within budget and timescale.
• Manage statutory testing responsibilities, (portable appliance, fixed electrical, gas, asbestos, etc) and work with the facilities manager and fire officers to maintain the emergency installations.
• Contribute to minor projects, capital schemes and long-term estate planning.
• Liaise with the Facilities Manager on matters of accommodation environmental control, physical condition and upgrading.
• Liaise with the Residences Manager on matters of accommodation, physical condition and upgrading projects.
• Be responsible for the Maintenance Officer and two building Technicians.

Background Experience/Qualifications:

• Preferably trades qualified senior electrician
• Substantial experience of operating within a multi-skilled estates organisation, preferably within Higher Education or a similar institution.
• Experience of budget control, procurement of services and supplies, establishing the needs of customers.
• Ability to prioritise simultaneous demands is essential.
• Professional or technical qualifications in building technology to a general level are also necessary, as is experience of building engineering services and the operation of computerised building and energy management systems.
• Knowledge of Health & Safety, Nebosh or similar as a minimum.
• Experience in legislative compliance requirements of electrical and gas safety, water hygiene, asbestos, fire safety etc.

• Good IT skills relevant to the role with competence in the use of email, web, Microsoft Office Suite and Building Management Systems.
• Ability to assist in the management and actions resulting from the estates helpdesk.
• Good Project Management skills and abilities to organise tasks and demands.
• An effective team player
• Proven problem-solving capability to deliver projects
