Summary

Job Title: Deputy Manager – Children’s Residential Home
Location: Stockton on Tees
Salary: £40.000- £43.000 based on experience
Hours: Full-time, Permanent 37.5hrs per week with flexibility for evenings/weekends

Job Purpose:
As Deputy Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the Registered Manager in leading the home, ensuring high standards of care, safeguarding, and positive outcomes for children and young people. You will provide strong leadership to staff, ensure compliance with Ofsted and regulatory standards, and help create a home where children feel valued, respected, and supported.

Key Responsibilities
• Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the home.
• Lead, supervise, and develop a team of residential support workers.
• Ensure the home meets all regulatory requirements.
• Support in developing and implementing individual care plans.
• Promote and safeguard the welfare of children.
• Support children in developing life skills, emotional resilience, and educational achievement.
• Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation in line with policies.
• Manage shifts, rotas, and on-call responsibilities as required.
• Assist with recruitment, training, and performance management of staff.
• Actively engage in the therapeutic, trauma-informed culture of the home.

Person Specification:
Essential:
• Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) – and willingness to work towards Level 5 in Leadership and Management.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a children’s residential setting.
• Supervisory or team leadership experience.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding, child development, and relevant legislation (Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Standards, Working Together to Safeguard Children.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
• Ability to handle crises, make decisions under pressure, and remain calm and professional.
• Full UK Driving License
Desirable:
• Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or working towards).
• Experience with children with complex needs, trauma, or challenging behaviours.
