Summary
Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee the daily operations of the Langar, including meal planning, food preparation, and serving.
• Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of food and supplies, and manage inventory and storage of food items.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient operations and high-quality food services for the Gurdwara community.
• Manage the budget and resources of the Langar, ensuring that expenses are within budget and all financial reporting is accurate and timely.
• Lead, delegate and manage a team of staff and volunteers, including scheduling, training, and supervision.
• Ensure the safety and hygiene of the Langar kitchen, its staff, and its visitors, and take appropriate actions to resolve any issues that may arise.
• Ensure all work tops and stations are clean and ready to use
• Act as a liaison between the Langar and the Gurdwara committee and community members.
• Provide regular updates and reports to the Gurdwara committee and participate in committee meetings as needed.
• Monitor food stock (including from donations) and delegate efficient and appropriate tasks to Reception/Admin staff when re-stocking.
• Organise kitchen supplies are stored correctly in appropriate locations.
• Ensure food hygiene daily checklist sheets (temperature etc) are filled in daily
• Ensure storerooms are locked and only those with permission may use or enter.
• Maintain pest control awareness and report and issues to the management.
Qualifications:
• Proven experience in a similar role, with a strong track record of managing food services operations and leading teams.
• Formal training in hospitality management, culinary arts, or related field is desirable.
• Familiarity with food safety and hygiene regulations, and experience with food safety management systems. This should include in-depth knowledge and training within the food industry, e.g., Level 2 Food and hygiene certification and a detailed understanding of allergens.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and guide volunteers and staff.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines. Proficiency in Punjabi is essential, with at least an understanding of English.
Experience with budgeting and staff and resource management.
Desire to build and grow a dynamic and community-focused institution. Knowledge and experience of Sikh organisation operations is desirable but not essential.
