Summary

Work Pattern
Your contracted hours each week throughout your apprenticeship will be 37 hours. (Monday - Thursday between 8.00am - 4.30pm, Friday between 8.00am – 3.00pm.)


Location
This role is based at Parker Meggitt’s Fareham Site. It is recommended that you live within a commutable distance of this location.


Key Responsibilities


Manual Machining: Learn the principles and practices of manual machining, gaining hands-on experience with various machine tools.
Assembly of Components: Assemble intricate mechanical and electromechanical parts, understanding both the theory and practical aspects of assembly.
Calibrate Machinery: Calibrate machinery and perform test routines to ensure they are operating correctly and efficiently.
Exposure to Multiple Manufacturing Processes: Gain experience in a variety of manufacturing processes, including welding, vacuum brazing, swaging, potting, and more.
Maintain Business Information Systems: Support the maintenance of business systems, ensuring the content is up to date and relevant.
Health and Safety Compliance: Adhere to company procedures for health and safety, ensuring a safe working environment.
Learn Engineering Principles: Study key engineering principles such as lean manufacturing to support continuous improvement and efficiency in production processes.

Apprentice salaries increase annually with experience and are reviewed each September, depending on individual performance. Apprentices are also included in Parker Meggitt's bonus scheme, receiving a minimum of 2.5%, which may increase depending on overall company performance.

Training
Alongside your day role, you will work to complete your apprenticeship with your external training provider, South Hampshire College Group. This will give you the knowledge, training and external approval to do your job effectively.

Qualifications required
Qualifications


5 x GCSEs (or equivalent), including Grade C/4 in Maths, English, and a STEM subject.
At least 2 A Levels (or equivalent) in any subject.


In order to apply, you must:


Not already hold a similar qualification to this programme.
Be at least 16 years old when the apprenticeship begins.
Have the right to work in the UK.
Have been a UK/EU/EAA resident for at least the past three years prior to starting the apprenticeship.
Have completed full-time education before the apprenticeship is due to start.

Strong focus on precision and accuracy in tasks, ensuring high-quality outputs and compliance with specifications.
Ability to understand and work with various tools, machinery, and technology used in the manufacturing process.
Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.


Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey information to team members and supervisors.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team, contributing positively to group efforts and supporting colleagues.
Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing technologies and processes in the manufacturing environment.
Ability to prioritise tasks effectively and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines.

Upon successful completion of the programme — and subject to performance — you may have the opportunity to move into a permanent role within the team or business area where you completed your apprenticeship.
