Summary
The posts are based at Moorfields Eye Hospital, including the City Rd site and a number of satellites based in and around London. The full time job plan comprises 10 PAs: 7 regular DCC sessions and 3 SPA sessions (currently the ratio between the DCC and SPA is under negotiation with the Trust, and maybe subject to change). The post holders will be expected to work flexibly to facilitate service provision when colleagues are absent, including staffing the satellite units. The case mix encompasses extremes of age, with pediatric cases down to 4 weeks, and elderly patients with numerous comorbidities. The vast majority of our work is day case, although a small number of adult patients remain in hospital overnight. Many patients undergo surgery with local anaesthesia. The lack of many services that would be found in a general hospital means that the anaesthetic service is more than usually relied upon for perioperative patient care. In addition to clinical duties, the new appointee would be expected to participate in departmental activities including management, teaching and audit. The JD is awaiting approval from the Royal College of Anaesthetist.
