University College London Hospitals is seeking to appoint a Clinical Research Fellow in Cellular Histopathology This is a 12-month fixed term contract.
The Trust has a commitment to high quality patient care, innovative service models, delivery of performance targets, and excellence in education/training. The department provides excellent teaching as well as opportunities to undertake audits. The successful candidate will work alongside Specialist Trainees and Academic Clinical Fellows and will have the opportunity to develop a special interest in Urological Pathology, as well as participating in translational Urology research projects.
The postholder will be required to work a full-time (40 hours/week). There is no on-call commitment.
The appointee will be expected to take on the duties of a specialist registrar within the department and will be working in Cellular Pathology with a special interest in Urological Pathology. The successful candidate will be expected to assist in providing a diagnostic service to UCL Hospitals and to other hospitals/departments that refer cases for expert opinion and participate in Urological research projects.
The department’s routine workload of Urological Pathology includes a broad spectrum of screening and diagnostic cases together with a network referral cases. This is a great opportunity for pathologists who wish to develop and consolidate diagnostic skills in these areas as well as acquiring knowledge of state-of-the-art immunohistochemical and molecular techniques applicable to relative malignancies.
The diagnostic annual workload for Urological histopathology is approximately 2,800 cases and includes bladder, prostate, kidney tumour and penile biopsies, bladder and prostate TUR specimens and surgical resections such as prostatectomy, cystectomy, glansectomy and penectomy specimens.
The Consultants in the department and Uropathology team are involved in collaborative research projects with clinical teams at UCLH and with biomedical researchers at University College London. The Urology Units actively participate in various multi-centre clinical trials and there are a number of ongoing and proposed research projects.
