Historic England are excited to be seeking a Public Relations and Communications Assistant Apprentice . This is rare exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to achieve a Level 4 Apprenticeship, working in the dynamic and forward thinking Media and Content team.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone embarking on their early career journey.

You will assist the Media & Content team in promoting the work of Historic England to newspapers, TV, radio and websites, as well as creating content for the organisation’s social media channels and website. Under the supervision and guidance of your manager you will learn how to support colleagues in the day-to-day-running of the Historic England press office and social media channels.

The Public Relations and Communications Assistant Apprentice is offered as an 18 month Fixed Term Contract, based in our London office, with hybrid working.

What you will be doing

You will be working towards completion of your PR & Communications Assistant Level 4 apprenticeship over the course of 18 months. 80% of your time will be spent in the workplace, and 20% of your time will be spent off the job, completing a training programme specially designed for your apprenticeship with a recognised training provider.

This role will be based in our London Cannon Bridge office but will also include an option of hybrid working and remote learning.

You will learn from experienced colleagues who will support you to gradually take on the following responsibilities through the duration of your apprenticeship

The main duties and responsibilities will be:

Assisting in the writing and promotion of media releases about Historic England’s work

Producing summaries of daily media coverage about Historic England

Supporting the management of media enquiries about Historic England from national, regional and specialist media

Creating and uploading content including videos for Historic England’s social media channels

Producing and uploading content to Historic England’s website

Engaging with colleagues, teams and departments across Historic England to research stories for media, social and web content

Defining, tracking, and analysing campaign KPIs to optimise performance and report on results.

What will you learn

In training you will learn the background knowledge that will help you to understand the bigger picture of work, including:

How the heritage sector works: The people, organisations, policy and legislation that make up this fascinating area of work.

The day-to-day running of a busy press office, social media channels and website.

How to organise your time effectively, juggle priorities and meet tight deadlines

How to engage with and build relationships with a range of colleagues and journalists

What makes an interesting story, how to write compelling copy for a range of channels.

You will demonstrate excellent attention to detail and show that are well organised

You are a great team worker with the ability to get along easily with others

You have proven experience of using Microsoft Office

You will be able to demonstrate good written communication skills

You will be curious and have a desire to continuously learn.
