Summary


The Trust faced a number of challenges in the delivery of cancer access standards. The creation of a Cancer Services Care Group with a dedicated leadership team has enabled the Trust to focus on ensuring it not only achieves these standards, but develops a strategy to enable it to deliver excellent services to the populations it serves. This approach has already led to significant improvement in achievement of the cancer standards over the past year. The care group continues to develop its strategies to ensure this progress continues into the future.

The Haematology department provides a comprehensive clinical and laboratory service for patients across East Kent. Inpatients for haematology and haemophilia are centralised at Kent and Canterbury Hospital. Nineteen subspecialised outpatient clinics are held per week and delivered on all four sites.

This post is a full time (10 PA) role.

§ Provide outpatient care as appropriate – this post involves 3 outpatient clinics per week, providing
General Haematology and Haemoglobinopathy (Laboratory and Clinical) and Haemostasis care. This
post is predominantly based at the William Harvey hospital in Ashford with 1 day per week based at
Canterbury. Attending weekly multidisciplinary team meetings and partaking in 1 in 5 Haemostasis
oncall rota. There are separate on call rotas for Haem-oncology/general and Haemostasis teams.
There is a full middle grade on call rota in addition to whom we provide support

§ Continuingresponsibilityforthecareofpatientsintheir charge,includingalladministrative duties associated with patient care.

§ Provideclinicalinterpretationofhaematologicallaboratorytestsandprovideadvicetoclinical colleagues. This role also provides Haematologist support to the Haematology laboratories

§ Conductclinicalpracticeinaccordancewiththehighestethicalandclinicalgovernancestandards.

§ Providesupporttootherclinicalspecialities

§ Participationinclinicalauditandotherdepartmentalclinicalgovernanceactivities,andactivities to support appraisal and revalidation

§ Regularlyattendingmultidisciplinaryteamandclinicalgovernancemeetings
