As Data Management Lead, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring effective data management and governance across the organisation. Reporting to the Data Management & Governance Lead, you will work closely with the Data Governance Manager to implement data strategies, enhance data quality, and optimise data assets. You will also lead a team to drive these initiatives.

You will develop and strengthen data management capabilities across the organisation, including data quality assurance, metadata management, master data management, data modelling, and the creation of data standards.

Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:

Strategy and Planning

  • Drive Innovation & Continuous Improvement – Identify emerging trends to improve data management culture and contribute to strategic business and project plans.
  • Ensure Policy & Performance Alignment – Oversee data activities to ensure alignment with policy, business objectives, and efficiency goals.
  • Data Management & Compliance – lead the development of the data management strategy; support with the implementation of the data governance framework, with a particular focus on the data management elements such as overseeing the data management standards and developing and maintaining the data quality metrics.

Leadership and Managing Change

  • Build & Develop a High-Performing Team – Lead a team of data management specialists, providing coaching, mentoring, and performance oversight.
  • Foster a Strong Data Management Culture – Drive cultural change, implement new ways of working, and maximise technology use across APHA.
  • Lead with Transparency & Accountability – Provide clear, passionate leadership while promoting diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunities.
  • Ensure Continuous Improvement – Regularly review team performance and implement improvement strategies where needed.

Resource and Performance Management

  • Embed safe working practices - identify and address any health and safety concerns and support others to understand and fulfil their responsibility for the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves of others.
  • Ensure Fair & Consistent People Management – Apply APHA policies and procedures equitably across the organization.
