A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Welfare Rights, Debt Advice and Fairer Charging Service joining a team of experienced welfare rights and debt advisers.

We are seeking to appoint two full time Welfare Rights Officers who will provide specialist welfare rights advice including appeal representation for Salford residents. The roles will involve working in partnership with local organisations and collaborating across the health and care system working together to reduce the risk of health inequalities.

The Welfare Rights and Debt Advice and Fairer Charging Service is a well-established team based within the Adult Social Care and Health Partnerships Directorate. The service provides welfare rights and debt advice to over 4,000 Salford citizens each year and in 2024/25, secured over £11 million for Salford residents through specialist welfare rights and debt advice and representation.

Salford City Council has a long-standing commitment to supporting residents who experience financial hardship. Building on this, and as part of the city’s response to the ongoing Cost of Living pressures, the City Mayor and Cabinet have agreed a range of additional support including a new benefit take up initiative for people of pensionable age delivered by the Welfare Rights and Debt Advice Service.

Salford Welfare Rights and Debt Advice Service provides a supportive environment with 1 to 1 manager and peer casework support and a strong commitment to learning and development for all members of the team. We are a person centred service and listen to feedback from our clients to ensure our services are accessible and achieve the best outcomes. Here are some of their comments;

“You have been very helpful and appreciate your help and that you've listened to me.”
