Summary

MAIN DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: Clinical To provide specialist systemic assessments of clients referred to the team utilising information from a range of systemic methodologies (identifying and prioritising interactional patterns/ dynamics/ context) and employing research based models in order to formulate and implement plans with individuals, families and carers in the context of the professional and wider social systems. To provide highly specialist family therapy with clinical autonomy and to work in ways which are sensitive to the needs of families from a wide range of racial, cultural and religious backgrounds To implement a range of highly specialist systemic interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, adjusting and refining formulations, informed by different exploratory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses tailored to the needs of the individual and client system and the context. To use analytical and judgement skills in highly complicated and complex processes, such as large network meetings involving clients, families and professionals. To be able to hold conflicting information in formulations, by holding several views simultaneously and linking individual views in a way which is productive for all concerned To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individuals, family or group. To use systemic skills to work with people together who may be in distressed/ angry/emotional states, being able to hold tensions whilst at the same time pacing the situation and working towards resolution. To exercise autonomous professional responsibility and judgement for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients whose problems are managed by systemically based care plans, including communication with the referral agent and others involved in care. To provide specialist systemic advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to clients formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan, in the context of multi-disciplinary team working. To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and to provide advice to other professionals on systemic aspects of risk assessment and risk management. To act as care co-ordinator where appropriate for a case load of patients, and contribute to the CPA (or equivalent) processes as required. To communicate highly complex information and give feedback in a skilled and sensitive manner, for example in organising and conducting meetings which can include clients, family members, multi-agency representatives. These can generate a high level of emotion and may involve risk issues. To provide advice, guidance and consultation to peer and junior professionals within the service, both individually, and by attendance at team referral and review meetings.
