Summary

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is the UK's biggest government department. Responsible for building digital services that make a real difference to the lives of the 20 million people that access our services. DWP Digital is finding new ways to use our technology, expertise and innovation to help those who need it most. We’re changing how we work, transforming digital services for millions of citizens and their needs are at the heart of everything we do.

A Senior Digital Practice Support Manager will work within a Practice Support team to build Digital capacity whilst increasing membership engagement in order to grow and retain talent.

You will play an active part within the Practice community, helping job families understand the bigger picture beyond their own area, encouraging collaborative cross-Practice delivery, providing professional support and help build capability and community.

There are three roles focussed on delivering Comms and Engagement initiatives across three different Practices.

We have a number of exciting opportunities across teams shaping the future at DWP Digital:

  • Engineering - You will support members of the Engineering Practice, who build digital services, applications and systems for DWP.
  • Data - You will support members of the Data Practice, who deliver data driven intelligence, products and services that enhance the services that we offer and improve outcomes for citizens and colleagues.
  • Business Services - The Business Services Practice unites key business service roles, enabling the Digital Group to deliver critical IT services for DWP and its citizen customers. These business support services are provided through a combination of centralised teams at Group level and functional teams supporting Directors to deliver their respective lines of business.

Please note: As part of the role, you may be required to travel regularly to the other digital hubs. The frequency of this will be discussed further should you be successful.

Digital Group is organised into Communities of Practice, which are groups of people with similar or closely related skills, experience and job responsibilities, so they can easily collaborate, share ideas and skills, to build their own capabilities and achieve better outcomes.

Practice Support Managers in DWP Digital are responsible for supporting and building capability within their Practice communities. They work closely with the Head of Practice, Executive Sponsor and Heads of Role to co-ordinate recruitment, deploy members to assignments, identify suitable learning & development opportunities, support the organisation of practice events and in developing their Practice frameworks and plans, including measurable outcomes.

Practice Support Managers work in partnership with the central Digital Capability Team to shape, understand & communicate the strategic objectives and frameworks, then apply these to accelerate Digital performance and quality by championing common standards, common ways of working, common resources and creating communities of practice and role identity, factoring in any specific needs or requirements of the disciplines and roles within the Practice.

This role may include line management responsibilities.

Key activities of this role include:

  • Developing strong relationships and networks with own team, Head of Practice, Heads of Role and across the wider Practice Community.
  • Playing an active role in the Practice community, helping Job Families understand the bigger picture beyond their own area, encourage collaborative cross-practice delivery, providing professional support and helping build capability.
  • Proactively identifying story ideas and content from within and beyond the Practice.
  • Applying creative writing skills to bring stories to life through a range of channels and products, including news stories, blogs, reports, and social intranet posts.
  • Supporting the creation and delivery of a Comms Strategy and a forward-look roadmap for community-wide and job-family specific events.
  • Assessing the effectiveness of internal communications on a regular basis and act on feedback received to ensure communications are accurate, timely, relevant, and meet the needs of the community.
  • Responsibility for all aspects of Practice event production including scheduling, venue selection, content development and arranging speakers, as well as evaluation of delivery and impacting lessons learned post-event.
