Summary

AAT is the UK’s leading qualification and professional membership body for vocational accountants. We pride ourselves on providing practical qualifications that meet the needs of both employers and employees.

Term: Permanent

Location: We have hybrid working in place, with 1-2 days per week, in our office in Canary Wharf.

What exactly will you be doing?
As a Practice Assurance Reviewer, you will play a vital role in maintaining AAT’s regulatory and AML supervision framework. This role involves conducting practice assurance reviews to monitor compliance with professional standards, ethics, and anti-money laundering (AML) regulations, and will involve visiting AAT member firms who range from large firms through to sole practitioners, so no review is the same. Acting as a trusted advisor, you will offer constructive guidance, identify areas for improvement and drive adherence to quality benchmarks. Through risk-based methodologies, you will not only safeguard excellence within the accountancy profession but also reinforce AAT’s standing as a respected and trusted AML supervisory authority.

As the reviewer you will be responsible for seeing the practice assurance review through from start to finish and are empowered to conclude reviews with no action, recommend corrective actions or refer for disciplinary action for non-compliance identified. This role will have control over the completion of their reviews so will need to be task-driven and able to plan and prioritise own practice assurance review work effectively.

Major objectives
Conduct on-site practice assurance reviews to monitor member compliance.
Ensure effective application of AAT’s risk assessment framework and supervisory methodologies.
Propose corrective actions and provide constructive advice to members to enhance compliance.
Analyse and report on assurance review trends to inform internal and external stakeholders.
Engage with members and stakeholders, offering expert advice on compliance and standards.
Collaborate across teams and supervisory bodies to uphold professional standards and regulations.
Drive continuous improvement and develop innovative approaches to assurance activities.

What are we looking for?
Strong knowledge of compliance, audit, assurance, and anti-money laundering legislation.
Excellent communication, report writing, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Proven experience in compliance monitoring, analysing evidence, and drafting reports.
Ability to work independently, manage tasks effectively, and make sound decisions.
A relevant accounting qualification and an understanding of the accountancy profession and running an accountancy practice, its challenges, and regulatory frameworks.
Relevant experience or qualifications in AML requirements, audit, compliance, or assurance.
A proactive mindset with the ability to influence, support others, and contribute to organisational goals.

Join our expert team and contribute to upholding the highest professional standards and compliance within the accountancy profession. If you are in a senior management role in an accountancy practice with some internal audit experience with a wide and up to date knowledge of the accountancy profession, we would love to hear from you!

What are the benefits?
At AAT we believe in treating our staff well and this is reflected in our wide-ranging benefits, which include:

Hybrid working (1-2 days per week in our London office) and opportunities for further flexible working.
25 days’ annual leave, increasing one day per year up to a maximum of 30 days plus bank holidays.
Great pension scheme, life assurance, and critical illness cover.
Health cash plan.
Enhanced maternity and shared parental leave contributions of up to 6 months’ full pay depending on the length of service.
Regular wellbeing initiatives.
Cycle2Work scheme and much more.

Closing Date: The planned closing date for this role is 13 May 2025 at 17.00, however, we reserve the right to close the role earlier than planned.

It’s an exciting time to join AAT and we would love you to join us on our journey. In 2023 we achieved one-star company status in the Best Companies survey, and we have recently launched our strategy to 2030.

We are committed to being an inclusive and welcoming place to work. We encourage applications from diverse candidates and make recruitment decisions based on skill and experience. We have a Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Champions group, which leads on our D&I strategy and organise events to celebrate and raise awareness. We are a disability-confident committed employer and have signed up to the Race at Work Charter. We have also signed up for the Women in Finance Charter, and in 2022 we exceeded our target for appointing females into senior positions.
