Summary
Title: Personal assistant /Support worker
Location: 10 miles from Aberystwyth but engaging the young person within the local and wider community.
Hours of work: 3 hours per week with some flexibility on which days.
3 hours per week in school holidays – to be worked flexibly as agreed in advance.
Rate of pay: £13.50 per hour
Introduction:
Are you outgoing and friendly, happy to join in with activities and passionate about your work? If so, you could be the ideal Personal Assistant to support my son to access his community.
The post is for 3 hours a week which will assist him to access activities in the community, increasing his confidence and independence.
The aim of this direct payment is to reduce social isolation and learn new skills independent of the family
This post is funded by the local authority through the Direct Payments scheme
My son’s interests are outdoor adventures, the gym, swimming, cycling, going to the beach or woods, building dens, fire making, rock climbing and playing pool as well as computer games.
He has limited awareness of social dangers (stranger danger) and is easily persuaded into things. He benefits from support to use his own money.
Due to his condition he requires someone with patience and understanding, who can coax and negotiate with him to do things rather than demand he complete tasks and take time to explain the reason for having to do things.
My son also has allergy related medical conditions as well as carries an Epi-pen. Training will be provided.
As a Personal Assistant you are required to have your own transport and a full, clean driving licence. Travel expenses are paid at 45p a mile by the employer. (Excluding travel to and from work)
This is an ideal opportunity to further your career development as training can be provided at no extra cost to yourself.
Main Duties: Support to access social opportunities locally, and further afield occasionally, reducing his social isolation.
Assist him to engage in hobbies, sport, having adventures as well as visiting cafes and social events
Support him to develop his confidence and independence.
Support him to develop confidence around using his own money.
Person Specification – Proactive, energetic and with an outgoing kind nature. A good sense of humour and bubbly personality.
Caring, honest, patient, responsible and calm, treating the person with respect and dignity.
Reliable with good time keeping and keep the family up to date with activities and any concerns you may have.
Able to use own initiative and be self-motivated.
Ensure his safety at all times during your working hours.
Able to maintain confidentiality and be aware of privacy.
An ability to develop and maintain a supportive relationship providing stability and encouragement when needed.
Good communication and inter-personal skills.
A full driving license and use of a car is required. You must have business use on your insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours.

Wages will be paid in arrears on a 4 weekly basis once a valid National Insurance (NI) number has been provided. You must be eligible to work in the UK and your employer will conduct document checks prior to commencement.
You will receive the appropriate annual leave entitlement as well as all other statutory entitlements, details of which will be set out in your contract of employment. You will also be issued with a Personal Assistants Handbook when your employment commences.
You will be expected to undertake any mandatory training identified as relevant to this post. The cost of mandatory training will be met through the direct payment. Failure to attend mandatory training may result in your employment offer being withdrawn.
