English literature or Englidh language

with literature.

Experience

• Extensive, successful and varied

teaching experience in the secondary

sector up to, and including, Advanced

Level

Knowledge and Understanding

• How to improve teaching, learning and

behavior through working with middle

leaders and individual staff

• The importance of pastoral support for

students, including interventions relating

to SEMH

• How to develop and embed processes

to develop students’ oracy, literacy and

numeracy skills

• How to monitor student progress and use

• Effective intervention strategies to

support students to achieve well

• Curriculum developments; both current

and anticipated

• How to strategically plan and implement,

then monitor and evaluate progress

The Post

The governors and Headteacher are seeking

to appoint an exceptional candidate within

the English department.

English Curriculum Area

The English department at Brine leas

is proudly built around an ethos of

collaboration; we share resources, ideas

and inspiration both formally and informally.

As a team we currently consist of 12 subject

specialists: comprised of a mix of full and

part time members as well as those who

have responsibilities in the leadership team

of the school. In addition, we have a full-time

librarian, who keeps our wonderful library

wellstocked and aids us with the running of

The Accelerated Reader programme in Years

7 and 8.

In English lessons, reading is at the heart

of everything; we aim to provide students

with the skills they need to appreciate the

beauty of language and structure through

the exploration of the writer’s craft across all

three Key Stages.

Our delivery methods and schemes of work

are under constant review to ensure students

are equipped with the knowledge and cultural

capital they need to become reflective and

lifelong learners in an ever-changing world.

At A’ level we currently run both AQA English

Language and AQA English Language

& Literature, as well as Edexcel English

Literature. For GCSE we follow the AQA

specification.
