Summary

We are currently looking to recruit two or three staff into our business.

Please note that we are unable to recruit anyone under the age of eighteen for any of these positions, and mature candidates are most welcome:

1. Part-time arcade staff
We are looking for at least one part-time staff member to work within our amusement arcade and aquarium operations until early November, and possibly beyond. Whilst this role is initially temporary, the position could become permanent depending on performance if a vacancy arises. We can offer a minimum of between 18 and 30 hours per week depending on circumstances, and are looking for people who have the flexibility to work any shift, including weekends and evenings as well as those who have the ability to undertake additional hours when the need arises. Further information about the typical duties involved in this role is below.

2. Student arcade staff (eg when home from university)
We employ several students who work during the Easter, Summer & Christmas periods when home from university, and we are now looking to recruit a further two students to replace those finishing their courses soon and moving on. During the holiday periods above, we can typically offer 18-24 hours a week (or more). While we have historically recruited students who are returning home from university, we are also open to the idea of recruiting students living in the area permanently who may be able to work one or two shifts at the weekend, and then more during holiday periods in line with the above. Further information about the typical duties involved in this role is below.

3. Assistant Fish-Keeper
We are looking for someone with relevant experience to assist (and occasionally fill in for) our fish-keeper with the upkeep of the fish and other exhibits at our aquarium operation in Matlock Bath. This is a permanent role. The successful candidate will have experience of looking after fish in either a commercial or home setting, and will be involved in regular feeding, as well as undertaking water changes and all other miscellaneous tasks in the upkeep of the operation. We are a fairly compact operation, and the duties associated with the above tasks will probably equate to around 5 or 6 hours per week spread across Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week, with at least one shift being an 8am start. However, if more hours are required on a permanent basis, we may be able to also offer shifts in our amusement arcade operations to increase weekly hours up to full-time if required.

About us, and the staff roles working in the arcades:
We operate two amusement arcades and an aquarium attraction in Matlock Bath, and are a long-established business, having operated for more than 50 years in the village.

We are looking for honest and dependable people capable of working within a small team, who are flexible enough to work a variety of shifts of between 6hr and 12hrs, including day shifts, evenings and weekends until 10pm (and sometimes a little later). Shifts can vary each week, and can be a mixture of 10am-4pm, 4-10pm+, 10am-10pm+ or 10am until 5/6pm+ including at the weekend. It is important that candidates can get to & from Matlock Bath in line with our opening & closing hours (10am-10pm) so please consider how you might get to and from the village in line with these shift times before you apply.

These are 'hands-on' roles, and the successful candidates will be required to work on the arcade floor, in our cash desks and at our aquarium as and when needed. We can be extremely busy during peak periods and need personable people who are happy to be on their feet & 'roll their sleeves up' to get the job done as part of a small team. The staff job itself is fairly straightforward and involves keeping the business clean and tidy, our machines well stocked, doing basic admin and helping customers with any problems. At our aquarium, and in the cash desks you may be involved in handling cash, using a till and undertaking other miscellaneous tasks as required, and 'hands-on' training will be provided.

Please note that as a gambling business, the law says that we can only employ those aged eighteen and above, and we will only consider applications from candidates who we consider to live within reasonable commuting distance of Matlock Bath. For those living further afield and outside of the immediate Matlock area, it would be advantageous to have your own transport.

• Cash handling experience is an advantage
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays
• Team-oriented mindset with a positive attitude towards collaboration
