This is a fantastic opportunity to join NCHA’s friendly and supportive Care & Support team as a Mental Health Support Worker based in Nottingham.

We provide our customers with accommodation, and ongoing support. Support is mainly on a one-to-one basis but does include group work activities.

What will you be doing?

It is important to note that this is not a ‘care’ role and the emphasis is very much ‘support’ based.

You will provide face to face support to people living with mental illness to aid their recovery and tenancy management. You’ll support them to develop their daily living skills, emotional stability and increase confidence.

You will encourage service users to maintain positive working relationships with family, social workers and other professionals. You will promote positive behaviour, with a focus on meaningful change in people's beliefs and abilities.

Some of our service users need support to address issues around substance misuse, anti-social behaviour, offending and other social stressors which might affect their tenancy management. This can occasionally mean we have to deal with challenging situations in a proactive fashion, liaising with housing, legal and criminal justice teams.

Numeracy, literacy and IT skills are essential as you will updating support plans and other important records frequently.



Shift Patterns

Support is all year round; so you will need to be available to work a variety of shifts across weekdays, weekends and bank holidays according to service user needs. Shift patterns are based around service user needs so our ideal candidate will be flexible. The normal working pattern is 37 hours worked over a 7 day period. These shifts can vary but generally will be between 8am and 9pm. If you are unable to work full time we may be able to discuss part time of 30 hours minimum for some of our positions but not all due the needs of the service we provide.

You will be an organised self-starter with computer experience, able to balance face to face practical work with computer based record keeping. You will be open and supportive to the needs of others, displaying our CLEAR values and having an awareness of the needs of vulnerable adults and able to communicate effectively with other professionals and agencies.

Interviews will be held on an ongoing basis in Nottingham on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and will include a numeracy and literacy test as part of the process.
