The role of group accountant here at Chesterfield Borough Council offers an exciting opportunity to lead a small finance team and contribute significantly to the council’s financial operations. These newly created roles will play a key part in providing accurate financial reporting, driving efficiencies, as well as shaping the finance service. This is a fantastic opportunity to join us and help make a real difference to local services which are valued by the people of Chesterfield.

The group accountant financial management role is to lead on the development, implementation and maintenance of processes and models to provide medium and long-term strategic information for the council’s financial planning and decision making.

The group accountant technical and capital accounting role is to lead on statutory financial reporting, taking ownership of monthly reporting, year-end processes, and internal controls, while playing a vital role in strengthening financial governance across the organisation.

The successful candidates will be CCAB qualified with a strong track record of leadership within a local government finance environment. You will have recent experience of undertaking financial analysis and a good understanding and experience of working with financial management systems. You must be flexible, organised and able to meet deadlines. You will have excellent attention to detail, first class communication skills and the ability to work closely with senior management.
