Summary

A Vacancy at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust.

A Full time Biomedical Scientist (Band 6) vacancy, 12 months secondment or fixed term contract, based at Kent & Canterbury Hospital, has arisen in the Haemophilia department. Are you a highly motivated individual ready to join our team, providing high quality service to patients in East Kent (EKHUFT)? As a professionally diverse team, the philosophy of the Haemostasis and Thrombosis service is to strive for excellence, with Quality and Service Improvement at the heart of all we do. We are proud to be accredited by UKAS to ISO 15189:2012 standards, and are currently transitioning to ISO 15189:2022.

We are looking for experienced, and enthusiastic applicants for this part time, fixed-term post for maternity cover. We can offer a rewarding and varied role, delivering a wide scope of diagnostic service using innovative technology. You will be joining our team of experienced biomedical scientists and clinicians, supporting operational delivery, staff training, method development, and review of clinical guidelines.

The laboratory is a designated specialist laboratory as part of the South East Haemophilia Comprehensive Care Centre based at Kent and Canterbury, one of only 28 such laboratories in the UK. The laboratory processed over 30,000 samples last year a rise of 20% in the preceding year, many dealing with life threating and life changing disorders. The laboratory provides assays that are nationally required for non-accidental injury screening. Staff in this laboratory have specialist skills in the diagnosis of bleeding and clotting disorders and our clinical scientist is involved with vetting, running, and reporting a large number of these tests. We provide expert laboratory support for patients requiring referral services for the whole of Kent.

The post-holder will be a conduit between the scientific and clinical sides of the service, with both laboratory and clinical duty sessions, and providing clinical liaison as needed. They will be a key contributor to quality management and improvement, the training of both clinical scientists and biomedical scientists, and the verification and implementation of new methodologies.

Kent and Medway Pathology Network (KMPN) is a formal partnership of seven sites across three pathology services in four acute Trusts. Our 1000 colleagues provide services across the health and care sector to a population of nearly 2 million.

We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with five hospitals and community clinics serving a local population of around 800,000 people. Our vision is 'great healthcare from great people'. Everything we do is guided by our values: 'People feel cared for, safe, respected and confident that we are making a difference’. We have a new way of working at East Kent Hospitals, called 'We care'. It's about empowering frontline staff to lead improvements day-to-day. We're looking for compassionate people to be part of our improvement journey for the patients, families and carers we care for every day.

KMPN are at an exciting point of our network development with a recommendation to form a joint venture across the four Trusts leading transformation. Our projects including single IT solutions, procurement and digital projects, to ensure our services are able to meet growing demand for our service users, patients and communities.

You will have a fantastic opportunity to grow your career in KMPN. We are developing a network academy, a platform for all network education and training from apprenticeships to advanced clinical and scientific qualifications with a single faculty making best use of our talented educators and trainers. You will not be expected to work at sites outside of EKHUFT. However, there will be opportunities for collaborative working within the network.
