These hospitals boast a highly successful operational model with a fully cross trained blood science workforce. In joining our team, you will be proud to collectively lead and develop the staff and services across these 2 sites collaboratively, along with the Chief BMS in Haematology and the Chief BMS in Clinical Chemistry, with whom you will develop a strong working relationship.

You will have strong and extensive experience as a Senior Biomedical Scientist in Haematology and or Blood Transfusion services, have a hunger for success in a demanding leadership role and have demonstrable evidence of management and leadership skills as well as a specialist knowledge of and passion for Blood Transfusion.

To be considered for the role you must be suitably qualified (see Person Specification) and have significant experience and knowledge of working in a UKAS ISO15189:2012/2022 and MHRA regulated environment as well as a firm appreciation for the importance of Health & Safety in the workplace.

The successful candidate will oversee the operational management of the Blood Transfusion laboratories on both sites and a physical presence across these will be expected throughout the week. This will include the daily management of the workload, interaction with service stakeholders, the cross trained blood science workforce, skill mix, equipment, safety, quality assurance, education, training as well as incident and change management to name a few. A system wide appreciation of the whole blood science service is critical.

The post holder will be expected to direct daily laboratory operations with shared responsibility for all blood science services in addition to Blood Transfusion over a 24-7 service. They will take a key role in workflow prioritisation and problem solving, be sensitive and responsive to the changing demands on the service and have strong organisational, administrative, supervisory, and team leadership skills, which are essential requirement of the post. They must be confident to implement change whilst ensuring service continuity and be able to provide a visible lead whilst encouraging staff to take ownership. They will exercise autonomy within professional and managerial boundaries.

The role involves working closely alongside a range of biomedical scientists, managerial and clinical colleagues on a daily basis. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is self-motivated, well organised and compassionate.
