Summary
Staffordshire Archives and Heritage are looking for an enthusiastic person to work as part of our public services team working directly with members of the public and volunteers.
This is an exciting time for the Archives and Heritage Service which has recently opened the Staffordshire History Centre in Stafford, and £8.7m project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Staffordshire County Council and other funders. This new venue is the home of the service and showcases our collections through our exhibition space as well as providing a dedicated research room, events and learning sessions.

Main ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible for the supervision of the Research Room within the Staffordshire History Centre, welcoming visitors, including dealing with any enquiries/orders both in person and by telephone or email and retrieving items from the strong rooms.
You'll:
- be responsible for assisting with the day to day operation of the History Centre including appointment and registration systems, supervision of the research room, retrieval of items from strongrooms.
- answer written, in person and telephone enquiries and fulfil research requests under supervision.
- direct readers to sources of information; to deal with photocopying requests and the sale of publications.
- under the supervision of the Collections Officers produce deeds for legal services staff
- provide a high quality customer experience and support the delivery of events and activities at the Centre and offsite.
- take part in the rotas for operating the public service points, events and outreach as required. This will include some evening and weekend working.
You must be able to demonstrate a high commitment to the delivery of an excellent public service.
You'll also have:

- A flexible and methodical approach to work.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to convey complex information verbally and written.
- Good interpersonal and team working skills.
- Experience of family and local history sources.
- Experience of working in a record office, library or similar customer-based environment.
- English and Mathematics GCSE/O Level equivalent.
- A minimum of one years’ experience of working in a record office, library or similar customer-based environment would be preferred.
