Description
The School Travel Assistance Casework (SEN) position (LBS-009) is a vital role within our educational support team, dedicated to ensuring that children with special educational needs (SEN) are provided with the appropriate travel assistance to access their educational opportunities. This position involves working closely with parents, schools, and transportation services to assess and facilitate effective travel arrangements tailored to individual children’s needs. As a part of our commitment to inclusivity and accessibility, the School Travel Assistance Caseworker will demonstrate a compassionate understanding of the unique challenges faced by families and children with special needs. The caseworker will conduct initial assessments, liaise with external agencies, and support families throughout the travel assistance process, ensuring that all documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner. The ideal candidate will possess a strong knowledge of relevant legislation and policies regarding SEN transport, as well as excellent communication and organizational skills. Through collaboration and problem-solving, the Casework team plays an essential role in enabling students to attend school safely and effectively, helping to create cohesive relationships between families and educational providers, ultimately promoting a more equitable learning environment for all.
Responsibilities
Assess individual children’s travel needs based on their specific requirements and special educational needs.
Develop and implement travel assistance plans in collaboration with parents, schools, and transportation providers.
Conduct home visits and assessments to evaluate travel arrangements and make necessary adjustments.
Provide information and guidance to families regarding eligibility and application processes for travel assistance.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all casework and communications with families and service providers.
Liaise with external agencies, such as local councils and transport authorities, to advocate for the best outcomes for students.
Monitor and review existing travel assistance provisions to ensure they remain appropriate and effective.
Requirements
Degree in social work, education, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
Previous experience working with children with special educational needs or in a social services role.
Strong understanding of legislation and guidelines regarding SEN and transport provisions.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with families, schools, and agencies.
Ability to manage a caseload efficiently, demonstrating strong organizational skills.
Empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by families with children who have special needs.
Proficient in using computer systems and databases for record-keeping and case management.
Hours Per Week: 36.00
Start Time: 09:00
End Time: 17:00
Pay Per Hour: £22.15
