2x Female Personal Assistants (job share)
A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF
I am an 85 year old lady living with my husband in the area of Dinas Powys. I have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's dementia in April 2023 with the observation it was in existence for a significant time prior to diagnosis. I experience some mobility challenges and use a zimmer frame. I require someone to support me with everyday tasks. I do however feel that I can still attend to my needs and have found my diagnosis very difficult to comprehend. Sometimes, I may be unable to put bits of information and memories together correctly, which can lead to draw false conclusions and believe something that isn’t true. I absolutely love animals and I have 2 cats and some chickens which are very important to me. I enjoy engaging conversations, time outdoors, and familiar routines that help me feel comfortable and confident. I sometimes need encouraging wearing my falls sensor and community alarm for safety.
PURPOSE OF JOB
This role is ideal for someone who values continuity of care, enjoys providing gentle encouragement, and is committed to supporting independence in a respectful and dignified way.
Providing high-quality personal care and support in my home, assisting with daily routines, personal hygiene, companionship, and outings. Ensuring a safe, respectful, and compassionate approach to care and building a trusting relationship.
PLACE OF WORK
At my home address in Dinas Powys
HOURS OF WORK
26.5 hours split between two PAs

Shifts range from half hour to 6 hours per shift, ensuring proper care coverage between the hours of 09:00-20:00
RATE OF PAY
£14.15 per hour plus double time on bank holidays
Appropriate mileage compensated where required
TASKS INVOLVED
Monitor overall well-being and report any concerns.
Follow agreed strategies to encourage participation in daily routines.
Prompt me with my medication
Provide support while my husband attends social activities (Monday & Tuesday AM, Thursday full day).
Personal Care:
Assist with morning washing, dressing, and personal hygiene.
Applying prescribed skin ointment and monitoring skin condition
Support with bedtime routine and ensuring comfort overnight.
Provide assistance with bathing and hair wash and catheter bag change.
Household Support:
Change and wash bed linen
Assist with light domestic tasks as needed.
Meal Assistance:
Support with lunch preparations and ensure hydration.
Companionship & Outings:
Accompany the client on an outing every Thursday (e.g., lunch, coffee, feeding ducks at Cosmeston).
Engage in meaningful conversation and encourage social interaction.
TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED
Essential:
Experience in personal care (formal or informal).
Compassionate, patient, and respectful approach to care.
Good communication skills and ability to build trust with the client.
Reliable, punctual, and able to work set shifts.
Full UK driving license with business class insurance (for outings).
Previous experience in elderly care or as a personal assistant with Dementia
Desirable:
Basic knowledge of catheter care (training can be provided).
ABOUT THE JOB
This position is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS Disclosure (Police Check), which must be completed prior to the commencement of employment. The cost of this check will be covered by the Local Authority.
All necessary checks will be conducted to verify that any candidate has the legal right to work in the UK before employment begins.
Although this is a part-time role, it is a legitimate position requiring the submission of a National Insurance number. Employment will commence under an initial trial period.
Wages will be paid on a four-weekly / monthly basis and appropriate holiday pay will be provided.
